Haywire lands Purdue’s Discovery park, multifamily development

Will provide fiber broadband internet and managed Wi-Fi to billion dollar development

Haywire, a fiber broadband internet and managed Wi-Fi provider to multifamily communities, will now bring its technology to Purdue University’s Discovery Park, according to a press release.

Haywire’s managed Wi-Fi is received through pre-installed fiber-optic equipment that cuts down on installation time and does not require customers to interact with technicians.

“By incorporating innovative technology into our managed Wi-Fi solution, we make sure customers don’t have to think about their Internet,” said Kelly Pfledderer, CEO of Haywire in the statement. “We do the hard part behind the scenes so it always just works.”

Purdue’s Discovery Park is a development project worth $1 billion, comprising housing, manufacturing and partnerships that will span across more than 400 acres on the university campus. 

Haywire’s internet service will reach the district’s apartments, residential housing and commercial spaces, as per the release.

Pfledderer, the founder and former CEO of Apparatus, a cloud and internet infrastructure company, is now leveraging his experience with enterprise networking to provide internet services to residential communities.

Old Town Companies, an Indiana-based land development, construction and real estate investment company, is one of Haywire’s multifamily property customers.

“They have provided top-notch service and have truly worked with us as a ‘partner’ in the services we provide to our residents,” said Brad Richey, senior vice president and director of multifamily of Old Town Companies in the release.

The first project in this industry came Haywire’s way in 2020 and is currently projected to cross 1,000 customers in the fall.

Haywire believes internet hardware within building infrastructures is a new way of providing internet connectivity to “dense” multifamily housings. This is because it eliminates the need to change hardware and charge installation fees. 

The statement explains new residents receive their Wi-Fi credentials before moving in and can connect to the internet faster. The company says it uses fiber in new buildings, which does not need costly upgrades in the future unlike phone and cable networks which cannot supply the necessary bandwidth for residents’ demands. 

Pfledderer says each tenant receives their own router and private internet connection through managed Wi-Fi. Cloud controllers also monitor uptime and speed at all times.

“Managed Wi-Fi is not the same as community or public Wi-Fi. All management and support of the network is done remotely, behind the scenes, resulting in a customer experience of lightning-fast, always-available Internet,” he added.
